Fumitaka TOMITA

I love objects.

1.an object which makes us feel humanities
2.an object which can tell us a long time, even though it’s new
3.an object which is full of originality
4.an object which is stateless but can be seen a little Japanese
5.an object which contains spirits not theories
6.an object you can touch and feel through your five sensory organs and appeal to your six sense
7.an object which is made of natural materials, such as stone, wood,…
8.an object which was made by a skillful technique
These my favorite objects get together and become my works.
『UPRISING』 are the chairs originally born in west, and finished with Japan lacquer and Japanese armour- image tops.
Armour is a symbol of samurai. And it might have been a coffin with prepared samurai spirit.
Robert De Niro, an American actor whose family was from Italy owns two of my Japanese 『UPRISING』 series. Isn’t it stateless?
I’d be glad if you feel somebody sitting silently as a chair of TOMITA.
